Abstract/Summary:
Teachers need to emphasize oral communication in the classroom by making learning meaningful to students' lives. There are factors that affect learning such as motivation, anxiety and beliefs of foreign language learning. There are many ways to increase the students' motivation with different methods and activities such as TPRS, Every Day Life Performance and technology using current authentic material. Teachers can create a student centered classroom and by making the students responsible for their own learning.; Three graduate students, including myself, at the University of Colorado administered an anonymous 31 question survey to 167 foreign language students on motivation and foreign language learning. Although this study was not solely on oral communication, there are some questions that pertain to my thesis such as motivation, anxiety, and error correction. I will incorporate the results of the study with my research on effective ways to communicate in the classroom throughout my thesis.
