Abstract/Summary:
This research compared whether court mandated clients have a differential success rate of completing intensive residential treatment for substance abuse, compared to clients who voluntarily enter treatment at the Alcohol and Drug Recovery Center in Hartford, CT. This research compared 20 discharge summaries of court mandated clients and 20 discharge summaries of voluntary clients, through the review of the "before and after" chart of each client. This study found that court mandated clients have a higher success rate in treatment compared to voluntary clients. This study indicated that court mandated clients have a higher motivation rate to complete treatment in order to avoid incarceration.
