Abstract/Summary:
This study was conducted to determine if differences exist between the rates of recidivism of juveniles leaving court-ordered placement to transition home to live with their grandparents versus their parents or other transition outcomes. The study examined the placement of minors from several counties across California during the 2002 fiscal year. Aftercare-outcome response files (N = 102) from Boys Republic were used in the study.; The study did not find significant differences in the rates of recidivism of minors leaving the program to live with their grandparents versus their parents or other transition outcomes. However, differences between county recidivism rates were noted. The study also revealed that 12.7% of the placement sample was under the guardianship of a grandparent, which is above the national average. Implications for social work practice and recommendations for further research are addressed.
