Abstract/Summary:
The problem I am addressing in this thesis is the co-occurrence between domestic violence and substance abuse and the lack of dual intervention treatments for both populations. My thesis includes reasons for lack of intervention programs, information regarding domestic violence and substance abuse, actual survey results from women at domestic violence shelters, recovery programs and a correctional facility. From the research conducted and the needs determined, I have created a program titled, "Intervention Program for the Dual Populations of Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse." It is my hope that this program will be used in domestic violence shelters, correctional facilities and recovery programs with the intention of assisting women to gain knowledge and empowerment to make the needed changes towards the goal of a healthy and happy life.
