This study evaluates the effectiveness of the education and stewardship project provided by the Wildlife Division, Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources (NS DNR) to promote the recovery of the provincially endangered American marten (Martes americana) and Canada lynx ( Lynx canadensis) populations in Nova Scotia. The project was intended to facilitate education and stewardship towards marten and lynx recovery initiatives among local fur harvesters and forest practitioners. It consisted of four outreach workshops, which were delivered between January and March 2003. The workshops achieved reasonable levels of success with respect to the promotion of a stewardship and conservation ethic, and partnership development, information transfer, and database compilation recovery results/deliverables, and variable levels of success in relation to the identification of direct threats and habitat issues related to marten and lynx, and processes for their remediation recovery results/deliverables.
