Abstract/Summary:
This research focuses on the stories and practices of sustainability as reflected by people involved in the Craik Sustainable Living Project (CSLP), Craik, Saskatchewan. I explore what sustainability means and how it is "storied" by people who are actively working at sustainability in the CSLP. The work of Jerome Bruner, Jean Clandinin, Michael Connelly, Frances Westley, C. S. Holling, L. Gunderson, Ann Dale, John Robinson, and other major contributors to the literature on both story and sustainability informs this research. Stories of sustainability as expressed by some participants in this Project are described, crystallized, told, and retold. Two significant foci of this research have been the importance of local initiatives to achieve sustainability; and the essential reconciliation of the economic, environmental, and social imperatives.
