Human resource management is critical for the success of an organization. The purpose of this study is to identify the human resource management tools provided by the YMCA of the U.S.A. for use by local YMCA's, and explore how the use of these tools is impacting the organization. The areas to be investigated include: recruiting, screening and hiring; compensation and benefits; performance management; staff retention and engagement; and networking and professional growth for human resource professionals. This study will then examine the merger of the YMCA of Metropolitan Minneapolis and the YMCA of Greater Saint Paul including the factors leading to the merger, and leadership's actions and application of the human resource management tools in implementing this strategic change. Next, these drivers will be analyzed within the strategic planning process to determine how the human resource management tools are impacting the mission and alignment of the organization within the marketplace.
