An approach to the synthesis of bridgehead diaza bicyclo compounds

Abstract/Summary:
Some natural compounds containing bridged ring systems, such as cocaine, are well known drugs, while others such as Huperzine A show potential for use in medicine. This project focused on the synthesis of benzo analogues of a bicyclo [3.3.1] ring system with nitrogen atoms at the bridgehead positions, structures related to Huperzine A. However, the cyclic diamine needed for the synthesis of the diaza [3.3.1] ring system is not commercially available. Attempts to synthesize a suitably substituted 1,5-diazacyclooctane are described. Experimental modeling of the construction of the carbon bridge was carried out by means of microwave irradiation using commercially available cyclic diamines.
