Abstract/Summary:
The tetrabutylammonium salt of the hexamolybdate dianion, (;This dissertation describes efforts to impart a variety of remote organic functional groups to the hexamolybdate dianion. The synthesis of both the imido delivery reagents and the subsequent organoimido hexamolybdate complexes formed are described. The results of characterization of the products by techniques such as Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy, Infrared Spectrometry, Cyclic Voltammetry, Elemental Analysis, and Single Crystal X-ray Diffraction arc presented. Some of the functional groups pursued include: carboxylic acid, pyridine, styrene, veratrole, crown ether, nitrile, phenol, and hydroxyquinoline. These attempts met with varying degrees of success. Most of the functional groups were pursued in order to transform hexamolybdate into a metalloligand. The results obtained in this project contribute to a better understanding of the chemistry of hexamolybdatc and organoimido ligands. Furthermore, the knowledge gained in this project may provide a basis with which to develop advanced materials.
