The goal of most cotton (Gossypium sp.) breeding programs is to develop true-breeding genotypes with high yield potential and good fiber quality. Bulk breeding programs advance unselected populations for several generations prior to individual plant selection: however, unproductive genotypes may not be eliminated until a late stages in the breeding program.
