Abstract/Summary:
This thesis documents an experiment conducted to determine the best performing Future Battle Force Organization. The U.S. Army uses simulation to investigate concepts used in developing new vehicles and weapons for land warfare. The purpose of the Future Battle Force (FBF) experiment is to develop an experimentation methodology using simulation and select the best performing organizational structure.;The Future Battle Force represents an organization of lightweight deployable vehicles. The tactics used in the new force will permit the lightweight vehicles to destroy the enemy forces at ranges long enough to prevent the heavier threat forces from engaging the Future Battle Forces with direct fire. A key concept of the Future Battle Force is to employ a precision munition that can acquire and kill at ranges beyond line of sight similar to artillery round.;The FBF experiment compared seven differing organizations in three varying weather conditions while performing two tactical missions. The criterion model, Decision Matrix (DECMAT), is used to select the best performer and is well known to the decision-makers. (Abstract shortened by UMI.).
