Abstract/Summary:
This quantitative and exploratory study examined the influence of attachment formed in early childhood with one's caregiver and its relationship to one's ability to form romantic intimate relationships in adulthood. This study also examined significant relationships between gender, ethnicity, attachment, and intimacy. The sample consisted of 91 Social Work graduate students form California State University, Long Beach.;Results indicated that there is a correlation between the type of attachment formed in childhood and the level of intimacy formed in romantic adult relationships. Results indicated that childhood attachment is more influential on one's ability from romantic intimate relationships for males than it is for females. Further research is suggested to better understand the influence of childhood attachment on one's ability to form romantic intimate adult relationships.
