Abstract/Summary:
This is a study of the needs, uses, limitations and effects of information systems in political activist organizations. Computerized information systems enable activist organizations to acquire greater political power and to affect public policy through organized mass political activity. The study includes an analysis of the effects of using information systems on the activist organization, its leadership and members.;Implementing an effective information system is an important part of an activist organization's success, helping it to educate, mobilize and coordinate large numbers of activists in a timely and personalized manner. Using personal computer systems, bulk mailing techniques, laser printing and computer-generated letters, personalized communication with an activist base can be done quickly and cheaply. This study acquaints activists with the necessary information system features and strategies for tracking information about activists to facilitate effective communications and organization management.
