Abstract/Summary:
This thesis investigates Grade 10 students' perceptions of their school media centre and teacher-librarian. The social constructivist theory of knowledge formation, that knowledge is formed through the perception of sense impressions and the mental reflection and interpretation of these impressions, is the theoretical foundation upon which the current research is conducted. Research literature related to this theory was investigated. As well, research studies that investigated perceptions of teacher-librarians from many perspectives were reviewed.;The data were gathered through an emergent design method that included three observations of student and teacher-librarian interactions, 84 student questionnaires, and five student participant interviews. The data were reviewed repeatedly for common patterns. When common patterns were detected, they were probed further in the data collection process; observational and questionnaire patterns informed the interview questions. Uncommon and unique responses from students that did not fit patterns were also discussed during the interviews. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)...
