| This master's degree project describes the design of a workstation for high school science labs. Current lab benches were observed to be insufficiently responsive to changing teaching methods, technological advancements and users' physical and psychological needs. Addressing these issues was the primary goal of this design project. It was apparent at the outset that satisfying the diverse range of users' size and ability would be the biggest challenge of the design. Since learning about universal design as an inclusive methodology for addressing user needs, I was interested in testing this approach to design. For this reason the principles of universal design were used as a guide in this project.; An investigation of lab benches currently in use revealed areas where improvements could be made to better suit the needs of students and teachers.
