This method allows the small signal model of the converter and linear control design and analysis techniques to be applied to PI-like fuzzy logic controllers. Using this method allows a fuzzy logic controller to be designed to give exactly the same response as a linear PI controller, and therefore the performance (bandwidth, stability) of the fuzzy controller can be designed and assessed in the same manner as is done for a linear PI controller. After the initial design is complete, heuristic knowledge of the system and trial and error can be used to improve the fuzzy logic controller's large signal performance without affecting its performance for small signals. Computer simulations are used to verify the method.; This thesis discusses the design and performance of a sliding mode controller for the buck converter.; A new method for designing a fuzzy logic controller using ideas from sliding mode control is presented.
