The objective of this research is to study a new type of planar resonator, namely, the patch resonator with a slot cross, which can be used in the design of a narrow bandpass filter for the mobile communication systems. This new type of resonator uses a dual mode configuration in allowing a size reduction of the filter by combining two resonators in one. The operating frequency during this study is fixed at 1.6 GHz. Our work is to achieve a reduction in dimension of the circuit, a reduction in radiation loss with a low cost design and easy to make. This study consists in characterizing three types of resonators, the ring resonator, the standard patch resonator and the patch resonator with a cross.; The principal results obtained indicate a reduction of 31.1% of dimension of the patch resonator with a cross compared to the standard patch resonator and of 11.4% compared to the ring resonator.
