This dissertation deals with low temperature synthesis and characterization of three materials systems: (i) electron-doped Ln;Ln;Sodium borohydride (NaBH;WC-Co nanocomposites, which are attractive for cutting tool applications, have been synthesized by a novel approach in which a polymer (polyacrylonitrile) is used as an in situ carbon source instead of gas-phase carburization. The firing temperature, time and atmosphere play a critical role in obtaining phase-pure products. |
