Abstract/Summary:
In the semiconductor monopoly metals acting as aluminium, copper and silicon, gallium arsenide, silicon dioxide which are functioning as inorganic semiconductors have been the fortitude. The novelty of transistor around the intervening of last century, inorganic semiconductors (silicon, germanium) took role as authoritative materials in electronics. Actually many studies were done in 20th century on organic semiconductors which says that they were not new. In 1970s successful synthesis and doping of organic semiconductors was recognized. Then on the onset of 21st century new electronics became a revolution due to the understanding and development of a class of new materials called as organic semiconductors. From the last 15 years many industrial and academic studies were done on organic semiconductors and has led to wide applications. It has been expected that by the formation of face to face stacking of pi-electrons leads to increase in charge-carrier mobility at molecular level. In my research work I had amalgamated derivatives in which tetracene is the strength of compound and to which propyl amine is the added as substituent. Starting material for this synthesis is 6,11-dimethoxy-5,12-tetracenedione. Both the methoxy groups in the starting material were profitably substituted by propyl amine. Then from this, next step is the reduction of ketones to alcohols. This step was tried using different reducing agents but there were no strong results. So I have finally winded up synthesizing a new amine substituted tetracene derivative and it was characterized using NMR and Mass Spectroscopy.
