Abstract/Summary:
This project involved tuning the classical washout filter coefficients for the UTIAS research flight simulator to provide accurate motion cueing for three different aircraft models: a twin turbofan business jet, a single engine, high wing propeller aircraft, and a twin turbojet fighter. The process involved a combination of off-line tuning and pilot-in-the-loop testing. Off-line tuning was carried out using prerecorded control inputs for various maneuvers, each designed to excite one of the six possible degrees of freedom. Pilots having relevant flight time on the aircraft under study, tested each model with the motion active. Their comments were recorded, and complaints addressed by further off line tuning. This process continued until an acceptable representation of the aircraft motion was reached.
