Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this analysis is to explore the efficacy of treatment interventions being utilized in psychiatric residential treatment facilities for youth. It focuses on three particular interventions that have been proven efficacious through various studies: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Mode Deactivation Therapy (MDT). The pertinence of this analysis relates to the expanding number of challenging youth who are receiving treatment in such settings and the need to provide them the most effective treatment. The literature reviewed was identified through relevant journals by way of data-base searches. A review of the literature points to the conclusion that each of these interventions; CBT, DBT, and MDT; can be successfully implemented in residential settings for youth and produce positive results. Furthermore, the findings suggest that each of these three interventions have specific strengths that can work best with specific diagnostic categories of youth. An opportunity is provided through this analysis for youth residential facilities to make educated, informed decisions regarding the treatment intervention approach best suitable for the needs of their populations.
