Abstract/Summary:
This thesis is focus on gun laws and homicide rates. The research was conducted to establish which laws have an impact on homicide rates, establish future research and criminal justice policies, and establish which punishment impacts homicide rates. The researcher highlighted three specific laws, which are possession of handgun while committing a felony, possession of concealed handgun without a permit, and possession of handgun while being a convicted felon. The punishment for the three laws consists of fine, felony classification, and punishment length. The researcher first converted all qualitative data into numerical data, then used the program SPSS to determine the results.;The findings from the research indicated that the lawful possession of handgun while committing a felony does not impact homicide rates, the same can be said for possession of concealed handgun without a permit. The law that does impact homicide rates is possession of handgun while being a convicted felon. The punishments for the three laws do not impact the homicide rates.
