he sudden development of information technology and electronic communication has substantially made it unchallenging to collect, maintain, and transfer personal information about individuals. Furthermore, with this advancement in technology, threats to the integrity and privacy of one's information have also increased. Therefore, in order to protect the information of Americans and make it feasible for them to protect themselves from loss, abuse, and theft of their personal information, the federal government implemented new regulations. Today, many financial institutions, credit card providers, and insurance companies offer Identity Theft protection that allow members to track their activities and monitor their credit.;As a victim of identity theft, the importance of safeguarding personal information has become imperative, and with new technologies offered such as Visa Verified for online purchases, protecting credit card information is attainable (visa.com). However, more precautions should be taken to safeguard ones identity and reputation to the creditors of the United States; especially since an individuals credit determines if they can purchase a home, a car, and acquire certain jobs.
