Abstract/Summary:
Small nonprofit organizations are a significant part of public services in the United States. These organizations face challenges different from for profit businesses, but the management literature places little emphasis on working with their unique needs. Organization development literature has traditionally focused on large corporations, although its principles can be applied to small nonprofit organizations as well. This project reviewed literature regarding the needs of the nonprofit sector and how the principles of organization development can be used to address those needs. Based on the information that emerged from the literature, the project concluded with a model to guide the work of organization development consultants when working with small nonprofit organizations.
