Abstract/Summary:
The present archival study, based on 778 undergraduate psychology student files, compared the grading standards of different Canadian undergraduate psychology departments. The grade point averages in psychology (GPA-Psy) of students from each of 14 universities were compared to GPA-Psys of students from each of the other universities by regressing the GPA-Psys on scores on a standardized test, the GRE Advanced Test in Psychology. Each of the regression lines of the 14 Canadian universities included in the study was compared to every other university through an analysis of covariance. Results show that there are significant differences in grading standards between Canadian undergraduate psychology departments. The universities were ranked from the one having the highest grading standards to the one having the lowest. It is concluded that the university attended by students should be taken into account when comparing the grade point averages in psychology of students coming from different universities.
