| This qualitative study evaluates six secondary mathematics teachers' insights on creativity in mathematics during an era of high stakes testing. Drawing on teachers from two school districts, the study explores what instructional practices these use to both prepare students for and address high stakes testing. This study discusses the common challenges faced in order to achieve creativity in the classroom.;The analysis of the study provides different activities teachers implement throughout the school year, and helps define creativity and creative activities. The results show that teachers understand the importance and benefits that creativity can have on student learning, growth, motivation, and confidence.;The lack of time and resources available to teachers to implement creativity was evident throughout the results. Teachers expressed the need for more resources, including a teacher repository for creative mathematics activities and lesson plans that would align with state standards and help students better prepare for high stakes testing. |
