| This thesis examines the impact of a large immigrant population on public library collection development. Ethnic minorities have become sizeable entities in Alameda County and the problem of determining the number of limited English proficient readers is addressed. Methods used by public libraries to plan, select, acquire, and fund larger non-English collections are studied. An inventory of non-English holdings is provided.; Research on this subject reveals that non-English collection development is gaining momentum as public libraries refine their methods of gathering information on ethnic minorities and as non-English materials become more widely available. |
