| During the last few years, Object-oriented Database Management Systems (ODBMSs) have begun to receive tremendous attention as the next generation database management systems. This thesis, is a topical analysis of object-oriented technology with a comparison of four popular commercially available database management systems. The products picked for this study are Object Design's ObjectStore, Versant Object Technology's VERSANT, Ontologic's ONTOS and Servio's GemStone. The analysis and comparison of the four products is done based entirely on information provided by the vendors themselves. The study begins with an introduction to object-oriented concepts. An object-oriented database model is proposed. The four ODBMSs are then analyzed and compared. |
