| An approach, of building a graphics system (BGS) by incorporating a bit-slice based graphics controller, has been proposed by Kondraske (13). To test the approach, "Sprite Oriented Graphics", has been proposed to implement in BGS using a microcoded approach.; The proposed BGS and the sprite generation algorithm are carefully investigated here before an implementation. In this investigation, the sprite algorithm is programmed into three different systems: the proposed BGS, a simulated BGS and an ordinary microcomputer bit-mapped graphics system for system performance evaluation.; In this investigation, the concept of incorporating the features of the high speed and firmware flexibility provided by SN74AS888 bit-slice processor family, as well as graphics drawing and high resolution capabilities provided by TMS34061 VSC, and the dual-port architecture of TMS4161 VRAM, is proved to be successful in achieving a high level graphics system. |
