| The exhibition Gross Domestic Product explores the formal and conceptual transformation of everyday domestic objects into sculptures that reflect my particular ideas relating to those objects.;The accompanying support paper begins with an introduction on the use of common objects in Twentieth Century sculpture. The paper investigates the work of artists Claes Oldenburg, Richard Artschwager, and Gathie Falk to provide an art historical context for the work in the exhibition. In support of the formal and conceptual aspects of the work, the paper explores appliance design and advertisement, and the resultant ideologies about housework. The paper concludes with an analysis of the work in the exhibition as it pertains to art, design, and personal history. |
