Abstract/Summary:
This study was designed to investigate the ability to predict success on national certification examinations. With the current decline in the number of applicants and available Medical Technology programs, the ability to predict a student's success on a certifying examination has become a valid gauge of the educational program. The sample consisted of graduates of a university-based 2 + 2 medical technology program from 1987 to 1992. The four predictors included in this study were entering grade point average, science grade point average, final program grade point average and program comprehensive examination score. The two national examinations used in this study were the MT(ASCP) Board of Registry Examination and the CLS(NCA) Examination. Results from multiple regression analysis showed that the final grade point average and program comprehensive examination score were the best predictors of the MT(ASCP) and the program comprehensive examination was the best predictor for the CLS(NCA).
