Abstract/Summary:
This paper seeks to make a detailed analysis of the Spanish art market since the end of Franco's dictatorship to the present, with the goal of showing the evolutionary development of the market's emergence post-Franco, through the crisis, which began in 2008, and to the present day. And from this, the paper will demonstrate how the financial economic crisis has led to a catastrophic decline in all aspects of the Spanish art market.;Furthermore, the thesis will assess the impact of the latest cultural policies implemented by the government as well as the general decline in art collection and patronage in Spain. Finally, the paper will compare the panorama of the contemporary Spanish art market with the typical "model countries" of the European continent that have also suffered in the crisis, in order to find possible solution for reviving the Spanish market.
