3DGIS tries to understand and express the real world from the perspective of 3D space. At present, the visualization carrier of 3DGIS is 2D screen, which affects the expression effect of 3DGIS,and further affects the user’s cognition and understanding of 3D geographic information. With the development of VR technology,MR technology has emerged.MR uses 3D stereo display technology, which enables users to understand the computer-generated world from the perspective of 3D glasses, and solves the problem that users are bound to 2D screen perspective. This paper is the first attempt to apply MR technology to the visualization of 3D geographic information, and proposes the architecture design of rendering 3D geographic scene(Holographic 3D Geographic Scene,Holo3DGeoScene)using MR HoloLens glasses. The architecture includes three modular: 3D geographic scene modeling,Holo3 DGeoScene interaction and visualization of large and small scenes.3D geographic scene modeling modular include rule-based 3D geographic scene modeling and Web service-based dynamic 3D geographic scene modeling, which provide the development materials and content for Holo3 DGeoScene system.Holo3 DGeoScene interactive modular includes two methods: human-computer interaction and virtual-real interaction.Human-computer interaction method provides interactive interface between users and virtual geographic scene.Virtual-real interaction method realizes mapping virtual geographic scene to physical space. The visualization modular of large and small scenes includes the visualization method of small scenes and large scenes according to the size of geographic scenes. The visualization method of small scenes renders 3D geographic scenes directly through HoloLens. The visualization method of large scenes transfers the rendering ability from HoloLens to backstage high-performance computers to solve the problem of insufficient rendering ability of HoloLens.Using Philadelphia 2D geographic data and OpenStreetMap data as test data, this paper realizes the application of HoloLens,a MR device,to render and interact 3D geographic scenes, providing users with a stronger and more realistic experience of 3D geographic information, and a more natural way of human-computer interaction in GIS.The experimental results show that the scheme is feasible and practical, and has good prospects for development.
