In 1970,Corning Glass Company of America successfully developed the first optical fiber with an attenuation value of 20 d B / km.Since then, the application of optical fiber has opened a prelude to high-speed development.Fiber cleaving is a very common process in fiber communication and fiber laser manufacturing processes, and is a common method to obtain the end face of the fiber, especially in the production of high-power fiber lasers. The quality of the end face of the fiber has an important effect on the fusion splicing effect of the fiber and the transmission efficiency of the laser. Therefore,it is of great significance for the development of high-power fiber lasers to explore and master the mechanism of fiber cleaving, explore the cleaving process and constructing a high-precision fiber cleaving platform. This article studies and discusses the development significance of high-power fiber lasers and the importance of large-diameter fiber cleaving. The fracture theory of brittle materials and the development and application of extended finite element method are introduced. The optical fiber-crack model based on the ABAQUS 2017 platform is used to simulate and solve the three-dimensional crack propagation. We studied the effects of normal stress, end torque and initial crack direction on the occurrence and growth of cracks.Combined with the results of simulation calculations, the key technical requirements for the fiber cleaving process are proposed, and the cleaving platform is built according to the key technical points, including the hardware system part and the control system part. And complete the debugging and optimization of the platform. Finally, use a self-made cleaving platform to perform different diameters optical fiber cleaving experiments. And the process parameters of fiber cleaving were explored in order to obtain fiber cleaver that can meet the production requirements of high-power fiber lasers. In this paper a number of different diameters of fiber cutting experimental data were summarized and analyzed. The relationship between the fiber cladding size and the optimal cutting tension is obtained, which provides reliable theoretical support for the universal upgrade and optimization of the next generation platform.
