In recent years, the study of coastal plants and waves is one of the hotspots of coastal engineering.Coastal plants can reduce shore scouring and wave slap, and it also can promote the deposition of sticky sediments,so that sediments and silts can be stabilized on the seabed, which providing a suitable habitat for marine organisms.Coastal plants, which are used as a new form of ecological coastal protection, are attracting more and more attention because they play an important role in protecting and beautifying the coastal environment. The interaction between plants and waves causes changes in the structure of the water flow. The motion state of the flow velocity at the bottom is different from that at the top of the water body. The flow velocity at the bottom is often turbulent and sheared. At the same time, the bottom is also the place where the water and the bed are exchanged between the heat and the inside of the momentum. Therefore,it is of great academic value and practical significance to study the influence of the rigid plant roots and stems on the the characteristics of bottom water flow.In this experiment, the prototype plant mangroves were used to rationalize the PVC round bar plant model with high rigidity, and the physical model experiment was carried out to study the attenuation of the water flow velocity of the rigid plant roots and stems under various working conditions.By setting two water depths, four wave heights, and four periods, the influence of hydrodynamic factors and plant factors on the flow velocity attenuation mechanism of the flora and the friction coefficient are studied.Combined with the experimental data, the variation of the flow velocity attenuation coefficient is analyzed by the horizontal and vertical directions. We found that the effects of plants on the flow velocity is caused by multiple factors acting together rather than a single factor, and the different plant parts, water depth, period and wave height have different effects on the bottom friction coefficient. This experiment can provide reference for future related research.
