Teaching of experiment is an important part of biology education and teaching,and using virtual experiment can solve the problems of difficult to carry out,high resource consumption and low safety in practical experimental teaching.In the current application of biological virtual experiments,most of them mainly through visual perception to realize the immersion and authenticity of the system,but lack of olfactory rendering.Olfaction is an important perceptual channel for human to perceive things,while odor is also an important feature of materials and experimental results in biological experiments.lack of this content directly affects the promotion of immersion in biological virtual experiments and learning effect of users.Aiming at the above problems,dissertation studies the olfactory rendering technology and its application,and the olfactory rendering scheme is proposed which is suitable for the virtual biological experiment.Including the exploitation of the olfactory rendering scheme and related devices and the design of olfactory driving module.At the end of dissertation,the virtual biological experiment for verification is constructed,proving that the proposed olfactory rendering scheme is practical.The main research work of this dissertation is as follows:(1)Analyzing the olfactory demand of virtual biological experiment,the principle of human olfactory production and the present situation of olfactory rendering technology.And an olfactory rendering scheme which is suitable for biological virtual experiments is proposed,also discusses the functional requirements of odor-generating device and software driver module.(2)A new olfactory software-driven method which is based on odor data file is proposed,and completes the business logic design of the software-driven module by this method,also a concept of olfactory compensation is proposed.This software-driven method can not only realize the communication with the hardware device to drive the real smell,but also invoke the olfactory compensation function when the real smell is lacking.(3)An external odor generating device which is based on the atomization principle of ultrasonic atomizer and supports the storage and delivery of 8 kinds of odors is developed.Completing the function design,structure design,evaluation and test of the device.Otherwhile,a miniaturized optimization scheme is proposed according to different site requirements.(4)A wearable odor generating device which is based on the atomization principle of electric heating wire and supports the storage and delivery of 6 kinds of odors is proposed.Completing the functional design,structural design,evaluation and test of the device,meeting delivery the special odor requirements such as smoke emission.(5)Two VR virtual biological simulation experiment systems are developed and one AR scene is used to verify the olfactory rendering technology above.By inviting the experimenter to experience the corresponding virtual experiment,and then recording and analyzing the corresponding experimental data and the evaluation of the experience effect where verifying and evaluating the practicality of the odor generator and the entire olfactory rendering scheme.
