Members of the genera Sphaerobulbus(Smetana,2003)and Ocychinus(Smetana,2003)(Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Stapylininae: Staphylinini)can be usually found in the forests of mid to high altitudes. And all the species are predators feeding on small arthropods. Before this study,17 species of the genus Sphaerobulbus have been recorded in the world. All of them are distributed in China scattering in Xizang,Sichuan,Yunnan,Qinghai,Shaanxi,Hubei,Guizhou. And 15 species of the genus Ocychinus have been recorded in the world with14 species recorded in China: Xizang,Sichuan,Yunnan. In this thesis,by reviewing all relevant documents and examining specimens collected from China,a systematic study of Sphaerobulbus and Ocychinus in China is conducted. And the main results of the research are as follows:1.Twenty species of Sphaerobulbus were recognized,of which three species are new species(all published): S.guangxiensis Zhao & Tang,2020,S.ningliei Zhao &Tang,2020,S.smetanai Zhao & Tang,2020.Seventeen species of Ocychinus were recognized,of which three species are new species(all published): O.huanghaoi Zhao & Tang,2020,O.motuoensis Zhao & Tang,2020,O.smetanai Zhao & Tang,2020.2.Thirty-seven species are described in detail, and the research history and distribution of each species are given, the pictures of habitus and major diagnostic characters are attached.3.A database for species of genera Sphaerobulbus and Ocychinus are constructed, containing the scientific names, type localities, taxonomic histories, relevant literature and illustrations of diagnostic characters.4.Keys to species of genera Sphaerobulbus and Ocychinus are given respectively.5.A preliminary phylogenetic study on the genus Sphaerobulbus from China is conducted by using Win Clada. The analysis was run for 20 in-group and out-group taxa, based on 28 characters states which are coded and explained. The same method is used to analyze the genus Ocychinus.6.A catalog of genera Sphaerobulbus and Ocychinus of the world are given.
