The Fabry-Perot cavities are widely used in national defense construction and national production,covering quantum communication,quantum network,precision measurement,laser technology and other engineering technologies and scientific research fields as they can significantly enhance the interaction between light and matter.And owing to the advantages of small size,high finesse,open-access,tunable,fiber-optic coupling and resistance to harsh environments,the fiber-based Fabry-Perot cavities are not only leading to advances in cavity quantum electrodynamics and optomechanical,also playing an important role in the field of applied research.On the one hand,they are expected to be the most promising tools for realization of quantum technologies such as single-photon source with exceptional overall performance,atomic entanglement,high-fidelity quantum memory and quantum network.On the other hand,the fiber-optic Fabry-Perot cavities are being used as Raman spectrometers for atmospheric gases,new scanning microscopes and fiber-optic sensors.Therefore,it is of important scientific significance and practical value that the fiber-optic Fabry-Perot cavity is developed.Based on these reasons,I fabricated concave mirror surfaces directly on the end face of optical fibers by laser ablation with a CO2 laser to construct the fiber-optic Fabry-Perot cavities during my postgraduate study.The specific contents are as follows:1)I briefly reviewed the characteristics,research progresses and application prospects of the fiber-optic Fabry-Perot cavities.On the basis of related work of shaping the end facets of the optical fibers by thermal ablation,I also summed up the optimizations of the optical set-up and the process of laser machining in detail.2)To provide guidance to design and construction the fiber-optic Fabry-Perot cavities,I established the theoretical model of the fiber-optic Fabry-Perot cavities.3)I introduced our experimental system for fabricating the concaves on the end face of optical fibers,and analyzed the test results of fiber-optic Fabry-Perot cavity initially constructed.4)I introduced ultra-short fiber-optic Fabry-Perot interferometer,which was formed by splicing a standard single mode fiber and another single mode fiber with concave surface.The feasibility of this type of fiber-optic Fabry-Perot interferometer used as a high sensitivity strain sensor is analyzed theoretically and tested experimentally.
