The ocean covers two-thirds of the earth's surface and is rich in wave energy resources. The South China Sea,as the largest and deepest offshore area in China, has a high development potential.High-precision wave data are of great significance for the utilization of marine resources, seaborne trade, disaster prediction and marine engineering. In order to reduce the high consumption of field measurement and improve the reliability of wave data in the South China Sea,a long-term assessment of wave energy resources in the South China Sea is realized by means of wave numerical simulation:Firstly, the theory of WAVEWATCH-? wave numerical model is introduced emphatically by analyzing and summarizing the application of this method at domestic and abroad. At the same time, the model is optimized to improve the operation efficiency of the model and the reliability of the data.Secondly, the simulation results are compared using different driving wind fields, aming at improving the reliability of model outputs.Meanwhile, the spatial and temporal distribution and joint distribution characteristics of wave parameters are analyzed, and CCMP wind field data with high-quality is selected. Finally,a numerical simulation system for wave energy resources in the South China Sea is built, using WAVEWATCH-? wave numerical model driven by the CCMP wind field from January 1989 to December 2018.The simulation results are verified by using the data of Jason-2 altimeter, and it is found that the simulation results are very good.At the same time, the long-term assessmet of wave energy resources in the South China Sea is realized by taking into account the distribution characteristics of multi-year monthly average and seasonal average significant wave height, mean wave period, wave power density as well as the wave energy exploitability, stability and effective storage, which greatly promotes the development and utilization of wave energy resources in the South China Sea.
