Underwater acoustic network has huge application requirements in marine resource exploration, environmental monitoring, disaster prevention, and national security. How to design a highly efficient, robust, and long-lived underwater acoustic network according to the characteristics of underwater acoustic transmission is still a research hotspot in the world. The Medium Access Control(MAC)protocol is a key factor affecting the performance of the underwater acoustic network.Due to the long-delay characteristics of underwater sound propagation, the underwater acoustic network often has the characteristics of spatio-temporal coupling during the media access process, that is,the transmission collision at the receiving node is affected by the coupling of space and time. How to coordinate the reasonable sharing of channel resources between nodes and avoid conflicts between data packet transmissions is a problem that the MAC protocol needs to solve urgently. The MAC protocol design in this article mainly considers the following difficulties in underwater acoustic channels: the difficulty of underwater time synchronization, the huge consumption of information interaction, the difficulty of obtaining network topology, and the limited energy of underwater nodes. In response to these problems, this paper proposes a distributed underwater acoustic network MAC protocol-ES-MAC(Evolutionarily Slotted MAC)that does not require time synchronization, only relies on local information, and adaptively forms the transmission strategy of each node.Among them, based on the local data transmission feedback, the autoregressive model is used to estimate the strategy income, the evolutionary game theory is imitated to dynamically update the strategy, and the moving average method is used to adjust the update speed, which balances the characteristics of smooth update and rapid response. Finally,it realizes the adaptive and dynamic update of the strategy set,so that the strategy of each node converges to the Nash equilibrium. The experimental results of the NS-3 network simulation platform show that the ES-MAC protocol based on game theory in this paper has better data delivery rate and network throughput performance than Slotted-Aloha and the equal probability selection strategy of ES-MAC.In the case of a relatively high data delivery rate, its network throughput is much greater than SlottedFAMA.At the same time,in the case of increased network load,ES-MAC can also ensure relatively stable network performance.
