Strong electromagnetic pulse will couple extremely high overvoltage in the electronic equipment through the front door(antenna)or back door(slot,cable),resulting in degradation,damage of the equipment.Transient suppression devices can effectively protect the conduction coupling of strong electromagnetic pulse in the circuit.For several typical transient suppression devices,there have been a lot of research results at home and abroad.For Thyristor Surge Suppressors(TSS),a relatively new device,the existing research results focus on the protection characteristics of lightning pulse and its own structure.Because of the great difference between different strong electromagnetic pulses,the characteristic response parameters of TSS under lightning pulse are no longer suitable for the residual strong electromagnetic pulse.Therefore,it is necessary to study the response characteristics of TSS under a variety of strong electromagnetic pulses.Firstly,compared and analyzed the time/frequency waveform and normalized energy spectrum of different intense electromagnetic pulses based on the provisions of the standard,and clarified the differences between different kinds of pulses.Then,based on the internal structure of TSS,clarified the working mechanism of TSS,and described the characteristic parameters.Furthermore,analyzed the application range of typical transient suppression devices,and compared the application characteristics of various devices.Based on the standard test method,carried out the pulse injection test of TSS under high altitude nuclear electromagnetic pulse(HEMP)and square wave pulse,determined the processing method of test data,extracted the characteristic response parameters,analyzed the influence of pulse width and pulse amplitude on characteristic response parameters,and obtained and the Function relation between TSS response parameters and pulse parameters by numerical fitting method.According to the key protection parameters obtained from the experimental test,combined with the working mechanism of TSS,studied the modeling method of TSS,and established the PSPICE circuit model of TSS.Through the comparison of simulation and test,verified the correctness and universality of TSS model.Based on the circuit model of TSS,simulated the response characteristics of TSS under three kinds of strong electromagnetic pulses(LEMP),ultra wide spectrum high power microwave(HPMUWB)and narrow spectrum high power microwave(HPM-NS)are simulated.Based on the test and simulation results,it is clear that the response characteristics of TSS are quite different under the action of many kinds of strong electromagnetic pulses,and analyzed then the generation mechanism of different response characteristics of TSS.Based on the above research,obtained the response characteristics of TSS under typical strong EMP.According to the working characteristics of the circuit,determined the combination method of transient suppression devices in different circuits.Combined with the application characteristics of transient suppression devices,refined the selection method of transient suppression devices.Finally,according to the device selection method,compiled he software of transient suppression device selection,and realize the automation of transient suppression device selection.
