Due to the characteristic of large-capacity and high-frequency operation of the fifth generation(5G)wireless network,both the transmission loss and the penetration ability of radio frequency signals are substantially degraded.Therefore,the coverage of 5G base stations(BSs)is greatly reduced and the number of 5G BSs need to be established is sharply increased.If the traditional electrical power supply is still adopted,the construction cost and deployment challenge of the 5G network will be significantly enhanced.The co-transmission technique of signal and power over the 5G fronthaul link can simultaneously transmit the power light and the signal light over the fiber,leading to the optically powered radio antenna units(RAU)with the centralized power management of 5G BS.My thesis is focused on the implementation of signal and power light co-transmission over optical fibers from the aspects of theoretical optimization and experimental verification.My main research outcomes are summarized as follows:(1)The co-transmission of 1.5Gbit/s 5G new radio(NR)signal and 10 W power light over 1km standard single-mode fiber(SSMF)is experimentally realized.The transmission efficiency of 10 W power light is 71.8%.Meanwhile,the power fluctuation of received power light is less than 0.2% within the 6-hour monitoring.Moreover,the error vector magnitude(EVM)of 5G NR signal is not degraded,together with the co-transmission of10 W power light.(2)The co-transmission of 9Gbit/s six-wavelength 5G NR signal and 60 W power light over 1km weakly-coupled seven-core fiber is experimentally demonstrated.The transmission efficiency of 60 W power light is 56%.The power fluctuation of received power light is less than 0.2% and the EVM fluctuation of six-wavelength 5G NR signal light is less than 0.01%within the 6-hour monitoring.The transmission performance of six-wavelength 5G NR signal light is stable,together with the co-transmission of 60 W power light.(3)The co-transmission length of 1.5Gbit/s 5G NR signal and 10 W power light to 10 km weakly-coupled seven-core fiber is further extended.The transmission efficiency of 10 W power light is 12%.Meanwhile,the power fluctuation of received power light is less than0.4% within the 7-hour monitoring.The electrical power-capacity-distance product reaches a6.3W·Gbit/s·km,in comparison with all existing co-transmission schemes of power over fiber.
