In this paper, the properties of luffa fibers were studied by chemical treatment, and the softening treatment and drying method were further studied to study the physical and mechanical properties and apparent morphology of columnar luffa.Filling materials provide a corresponding scientific theoretical basis. After softening treatment, the lignin and various colloidal components in the luffa were partially removed, which showed obvious grooves and voids on the surface of the fiber bundle, which reduced the overall compressive strength and peak stress. After softening treatment with 20%CH3COOH-10%NaOH,the density of luffa increased. After lyophilization, the density of luffa decreased compared with natural drying, and its volume remained more full than natural drying. The density of luffa decreased after treatment with 5%Na2SO3-10%NaOH,which was lower than that of untreated luffa. After freeze-drying,the volume of luffa was more complete and the overall density was further reduced than that of untreated luffa. The densification strain of the columnar luffa softened after treatment, but it was still between 0.5 and 0.7.Convenient and uniform processing of column-shaped luffa mattress filling materials. After freeze-drying,the columnar luffa has a low density, but is larger than the natural drying volume, which is more conducive to transportation and manufacture as a mattress filling material. After softening treatment, the hardness of the columnar luffa filling material was significantly reduced. The hardness of the columnar luffa mattress filling material was the lowest after 5%Na2SO3-10%NaOH treatment.
