Xinjiang becomes a new engergy base of China as a result of the discovery of coal resources in this area and coal resuouces will promote the regional economic.But after Zhundong coal combustion,it appears the phenomenon of fouling and slagging in the boiler.This threats the security and stability of the power plant operation,making the efficiency of power plants decreaed obviously.So it is important to understand why fouling and slagging occurd in boiler burning Zhundong coal.In this study,a kind of Zhundong coal was chosed as test specimen.Characteristics of coal quality,burn rate and ash melting temperature were analyzed by different methods.On the basis above,several improvement measures were suggested.The coal quality features show that Zhundong coal is excellent power coal with high moisture content,high volatile,high calorific value,low ash,low-sulfur coal,and its burning rate is high.According to the analysis of characteristics of coal ash,there are relatively more alkali metals and alkaline earth metals in Zhundong coal.The ash melting temperature range of Zhundong coal is wilder than Shenhua coal,and this is helpful to slagging.Experiemnts were carried out on the 3MW pilot scale combustion facility to investigate the deposition propensity of Zhundong coal.The results show Zhundong coal has higher slagging tendency than Shenhua coal.Observation results show that the flue gas temperature is an important factor affecting slagging.On the other hand,there is more deposition on windward area than on leeward side.Some suggestions are given to reduce the amount of slagging.Selecting resonable boiler type,optimizing the design of the furnace,adjusting the combustion parameters and improving the quality of coal may effectively reduce the slagging and fouling.
