Metallapentalynes and metallapentalenes are novel frameworks with planar Mobius aromaticity,which exhibit high stabilities and unique properties.The synthesis,properties and applications of osma-,ruthenapentalynes,osma-,ruthenapentalenes and their derivatives have been deeply investigated.However,the related studies of iridapentalenes are very limited.In this thesis,a series of new modified iridapentalenols have been synthesized via a simple and efficent one-pot method by the reacitons of functional 'carbolong ligands' and iridium complexes.The photophysical and electrochemical properties of these complexes were investigated as well.The dissertation was divided into the following five chapters:In chapter 1,the synthesis and applications of metallapentalynes and metallapentalenes were summarized briefly.Besides,a short summary of iridacycles was given.At the end of chapter 1,the main purposes of this dissertation were proposed.In chapter 2,by the reactions of 'carbolong ligands' bearing functional substituents with simple iridium complexes,iridapentalenols with different C7-substituted aromatic groups could be synthesized in one pot.The studies of photophysical and electrochemical properties showed that extending the conjugated systems could result in red shifts of the maximum absorption bands,anode-shifted reduction potentials and cathode-shifted oxidation potentials.In chapter 3,iridapentalenols bearing different C3-substituted ? conjugated groups were achieved conveniently through one-pot method.By the ligands replacement,a series of iridapentalenols analogues were synthesized.The UV-Vis absorption spectra showed the ligands of centered metal affect the absorption intensities signifincantly but has little effect on the wavelength and range of the absorption bands.In chapter 4,two methods,i.e.,one-pot and step-by-step method,were applied to construct the bimetallic carbolong complexes with ? conjugated bridging ligands.These bimetallic compounds can also be viewed as the iridapentalenols bearing C3-substituted metallaaromatic groups.In chapter 5,the innovation of this dissertation was summarized and the outlook of this research was presented.
