| Molten salt electro-deoxidation is a method of directly separating metal and oxygen from corresponding metal oxide to obtain metal or alloy. This method has some advantages, such as simple process and low cost. The traditional production of Al-based alloys is mainly the ingot metallurgy, which is expensive because of the low recovery of active metals and composition segregation.Due to the drawbacks,Al-based alloys such as Al-Li,Al-Nd and Al-Mg were prepared by molten-salt deoxidation method, and the mechanism difference of the electrodes of Al-oxide mixtures was investigated in this paper. In the KCl-LiCl eutectic system, the electrochemical study of the Al-Cu-Li2O electrode shows that the reduction potential of Li2O is-1.0V(vs.Ag/AgCl),and the reduction reaction is an irreversible reaction controlled by the electron transfer rate.Li2O2,an intermediate product of the electrolysis process, reacts with aluminum easily, which is helpful to promote the formation of Al-Li alloy. In the KCl-LiCl eutectic system, the electro-deoxidation of Al-Nd2O3 electrode showed that the Al-Nd alloy can be prepared by electro-deoxidation.Nd2O3 in the precursor reacts with chloride in the molten salt to form NdOCl phase, which is harmful to the deoxidation process of Al-Nd alloy. In the KCl-LiCl,KCl-LiCl-MgCl2 system,MgO cannot be reduced by molten salt electro-deoxidation to prepare the Al-Mg alloy. In the CaCl2-CaO system, the Al-Mg alloy can be prepared by electrochemical reduction of calcium-calcium thermal reduction method(ie,OS process). |
