With widely application of the polyurethane(PU)materials,the requirements of PU performance are becoming more and more stringent.The research of PU materials has focused on its functionalization.In this paper,the functional material of curcumin(CUR)was used to modify the degradable PU in order to develop new PU materials.The research was performed from two aspects:surface modification and bulk modification.The main content is as follows:?.Surface-grafting CUR onto polyurethane film:The degradable poly(ester-urethane)(PU)with unform-size hard segments was first prepared with poly(?-caprolactone)(PCL)and 1,6-hexanediisocyanate(HDI)as raw materials and1,6-hexamethylenediisocyanate-1,4-butanediol-1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate(BHB)as chain extender,and the corresponding film materials were obtained by casting method;then the CUR was surface-grafted onto PU films(PU-CUR)with a high density by two-step chemical method(allophanate reaction and condensation reaction).The modified surfaces were characterized by FT-IR and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).The effect of surface grafting method on the physicochemical properties of PU films was studied by analyzing the thermal properties,crystallization properties,surface hydrophilicity,mechanical properties,and in vitro degradation ability.The thermal stability and mechanical properties of the CUR-grafted films reduced slightly,indicating that the chemical grafting method has less damage on the substrate.In addition,the antibacterial properties of PU-CUR were performed using staphylococci and colibacillus,the results showed that PU-CUR only possessed weaker antibacterial ability on staphylococci,but presented better antibacterial ability on colibacillus,which meant that PU-CUR had selective antibacterial properties and could be used as antibacterial materials in medical field.?.CUR bulk-modified polyurethane:The CUR bulk-modified polyurethane(Cur-PU)with various CUR content was prepared with PCL and isocyanate-terminated urethane triblock(HBH)as raw materials and CUR as chain extender,and the films was acquired by casting method.The chemical structures of HBH and Cur-PU were characterized by MS,NMR,FT-IR and GPC.The physicochemical properties of Cur-PU were performed with DSC,TGA,extension test,in vitro degradation,and water absorption.With the increase of CUR content,the surface hydrophilicity and water absorption decreased gradually;the thermal stability increases sightly,while the glass transition temperature(T_g)had no significant change;the breaking strength increased with the decrease of breaking elongation.The results of antibacterial tests indicated that Cur-PU had no obvious effect on staphylococci and possessed satisfactory antibacterial ability on colibacillus,and the antibacterial ability increased with the increase of CUR content.To sum up,the introduce of CUR into the main chain of PU not only improved the mechanical properties,but also endowed PU with antibacterial ability,which enhanced the potential application of PU in medical materials.The surface modification and bulk modification of PU by CUR provide a new design concept for the preparation of functional PU and broaden the application field of polyurethane materials.
