The paper industry is an important basic raw material industry that is closely related to national economic and social development and has the characteristics of sustainable development.Due to shortage of domestic forest resources,non-wood pulping and papermaking have greater environmental impacts, and papermaking raw materials has gradually shifted to waste paper pulping and papermaking.Above, the relevant plans of the paper industry are constantly adjusting and optimizing the structure of pulp raw materials. In order to understand the changing trends of resource consumption and environmental pollution in China's paper industry, this study uses the Economic-wide Materials Flow Analysis(EW-MFA)tool to establish the material metabolism of China's paper industry from the perspective of material metabolism. It quantifies the characteristics of material input/output,metabolic intensity and recycling rate of China's paper industry from 2005 to 2017.Then it takes two sections of pulp and paper of China's paper industry in 2017 as examples to compare and analyze resource consumption and pollutant emissions in the two sections of pulp and papermaking. In addition, relevant measures and suggestions are put forward for the sustainable development of the current paper industry. The results are as following:(?)From 2005 to 2017,the material input and output of China's paper industry showed an overall downward trend, and the contribution of water was as high as 90%.In 2017,the direct material input per ton of paper and paperboard was 26t,which was 67%lower than that in 2005,and the consumption of fresh water dropped by about 69%.The recycling rate of water resources has risen sharply, with the water recycling rate reaching 77%in 2017.The consumption of paper-making raw materials increased by 67%,the consumption of fresh water decreased by 38%,the consumption of fossil energy increased by 23%,the output of paper and cardboard increased by 93%,and the total solid waste and exhaust gas emissions increased by 17%.(?)In recent years, with the continuous optimization of the raw material structure of the paper industry, the proportion of non-wood pulping has dropped from 42%to 13%,which was mainly replaced by waste paper pulping and wood pulping as supplements.Resource consumption can be greatly reduced. The production of paper and paperboard is increasingly depending on input of domestic waste paper and imported wood, which rose from 21%and 9%in 2005 to 60%and 31%in 2017,respectively.However,the domestic recycling rate of waste paper is still at a relatively low level, and measures such as strengthening the construction of recycling systems and raising residents' awareness of recycling are needed to alleviate the shortage of raw materials caused by restrictions on import of waste paper.(?)The consumption of resources and the intensity of environmental pollution in the paper industry have been drastically reduced. From 2005 to 2017,the Direct Material Input and Domestic Processed Output of 1 ton of paper and paperboard produced by China's paper industry dropped by 67%to 70%,thanks to many industrial upgrading measures such as optimization of raw material structure, process improvement, and strengthening of pollution control. In the future, the paper industry should continue to strengthen the concept of green environmental protection, promote the process of energy saving and emission reduction, and maintain a healthy and healthy sustainable development trend.Based on above analysis, this study proposes the following countermeasures considering raw material supply, energy conservation and emission reduction:(?)Paper industry needs to further optimize raw material structure, increase proportion of waste paper pulping and papermaking, regulate domestic waste paper recycling, control quality of recycled waste paper, formulate more complete waste paper import policies, and ensure a stable supply of raw materials for production.(ii)Utilize waste liquid produced in pulping and papermaking of biomass raw materials such as wood and non-wood;after papermaking sludge being filtered to increase the dryness,it is blended with coal and used as fuel for boiler combustion; The way of desulfurization and bag dust removal were modified to reduce "white smoke"phenomenon and reduce pollutant emissions.(iii)Papermaking enterprises should further promote technology transformation and elimination and equipment with higher energy consumption, apply automation control technology to process and management, and further increase recycling of boiler and turbine cooling water.Figure 13;table 17;reference 83...
