As an emerging discipline, supramolecular chemistry has achieved rich results so far.As an important part of supramolecular chemistry, macrocyclic chemistry has attracted increasing attention of supramolecular chemists. The design and synthesis of new macrocyclic host molecules are challenging and have greatly promoted the progress of supramolecular chemistry. In the historical development of macrocyclic chemistry, crown ethers, cyclodextrins, calixarenes and cucurbiturils are considered by supramolecular chemists to be very classic four generations of macrocyclic host molecules. In 2008,pillararenes were reported as a new class of macrocyclic host molecules, which attracted the attention of many researchers due to their excellent host–guest chemical properties and unique pillar-shaped structure. After the development of more than ten years, pillararenes chemistry has become one of the research hotspots in the field of supramolecular chemistry. In the pillararenes family,pillar[5]arenes have been continuously concerned and explored by researchers because of their simple and efficient syntheses, especially their advantages in derivatization. This dissertation expounds the study of the host–guest chemical properties based on pillar[5]arenes and Brooker's merocyanine derivatives from two aspects. In the first part,we designed and synthesized an AB-type monomer by modifying the Brooker's merocyanine group to the pillar[5]arenes and constructed a linear supramolecular polymer by using host–guest interaction. In the second part,we fabricated the host–guest recognition motif based on the per-carboxylated water-soluble pillar[5]arenes and Brooker's merocyanine, and constructed the supramolecular amphiphilic system of water-soluble pillar[5]arenes and Brooker's merocyanine derivatives. Then the self-assembled morphological nanostructures of the supramolecular amphiphilic system were investigated.Characterization methods including 1H NMR,13C NMR,high resolution mass spectrometry, scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and transmission electron microscopy(TEM)provide evidence for the research work.We have conducted preliminary studies on the host-guest chemistry of pillar[5]arenes and Brooker's merocyanine derivatives in the organic and aqueous phases, enriching the research on the host–guest chemistry of pillararenes and promoting the exploration of the new host–guest recognition motif of pillararenes.
