Frequency Selective Surface(FSS)is a two-dimensional or three-dimensional structure consisting of periodically arranged resonant elements. With the development of manufacturing technology and the improvement of computer computing ability,it has great application value in aerospace, radar and satellite communications.Since the1960 s,it has been widely used in both military and civil technology. With the deepening research of experts and scholars on the frequency selective surface and the development of various microwave EDA software, many factors affecting the working performance of FSS have also been found gradually.More and more complex FSSs have been designed with high performance computers. In this paper, the research background and significance of FSS were introduced firstly, and then the hot research directions were introduced by synthesizing the development status at home and abroad. Then,on the basis of FSS theory and analysis method, combined with the finite element electromagnetic simulation software HFSS,a series of studies were conducted on various factors affecting the working performance of FSS.Finally, three frequency selective surfaces with different characteristics were designed: two dual-band frequency selective surfaces and a broadband bandpass frequency selective surface. The C/X dual-band bandpass FSS structure after parameter optimization has a bandwidth of 1.34 GHz at C-band,and the relative bandwidth is 19.2%;The X-band passband bandwidth reaches 0.66 GHz,and the relative bandwidth is 6.6%.The steep cut-off characteristic and transmission flatness of the two passbands are excellent, and the insertion loss is controlled within 0.5d B.The polarization stability of this structure is good, and the frequency response curves of TE and TM polarization waves are almost consistent when the electromagnetic waves are incident vertically. In terms of angle stability, the two passbands are basically stable in the range of incident angle less than60°.The two initial resonant points of another dual-band bandstop FSS are 5.03 GHz and 7.33 GHz.The influence of some parameters on the performance of the FSS was studied by control variable method, and the two resonant points were adjusted to 5GHz and 7GHz.The broadband bandpass FSS structure is composed of metal strips and regular hexagon metal patches. The FSS structure unit size is very small, about ?/10.The maximum offset of center frequency is 9.2%,the absolute bandwidth is 14.9GHz,and the relative bandwidth is 67% when TE and TM polarization waves incident from 0° to45°.Large passband bandwidth is obtained under the condition of dual polarization and angular stability.
